Variazioni per orchestra, 1955, 1968.

Variations for orchestra is a serial composition, just like piano Preludescomposed one year before. Interestingly, the composer used the same series in both cases. Palester’s sketches to Variations have been preserved, offering an insight into his pre-composition work that involved testing all kinds of basic forms of the series.

The first performance of the piece, given in Katowice on 29 January 1958, was conducted by Jan Krenz. As usual, the composer, not fully satisfied with his work, revised it in 1968. This final version was published by Suvini-Zerboni.
